The Sheffield Sharks lead the British Championship standings with a 13-3 record. Defending champions Newcastle Eagles are second at 10-4, with the Marshall MK Lions right behind at 9-5. The Sharks registered consecutive wins this weekend to make it to the BBL Cup final. The Sharks downed the Leicester Riders 86-74 at home on Friday behind 31 points from an unstoppable Mike Cook to get a 12-point lead in the two-way series. The Sharks went on to down the Riders 78-81 to sweep the series with 21 points from Cook. The Sharks will take on Cheshire Jets in the BBL Cup final at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on January 17, 2010. In British Championship action, the Everton Tigers downed the Lions 99-87 on Friday with 28 points from Jerome Gumbs. On Saturday, the Essex Pirates defeated the Cheshire Jets 80-72 at home. On Sunday, the Eagles thrashed London Capital 68-89 behind 26 points from Darius Defoe, the Jets edged the Guildford Heat 85-84, the Lions downed the Plymouth Raiders 103-98 while the Glasgow Rocks topped the Worthing Thunder 103-85. Jessie Sapp led the Rocks with 26 points.
