Israeli League, Regular Season, Game 10: January 16-17, 2010
Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv confirmed its status as the dominant force in Israeli basketball by seeing off challenger Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem 103-78 in a Week 10 clash. The defending champs remained perfect with a 10-0 record, while Hapoel dropped to 7-3 and fourth place in the standings. Despite Alan Anderson's injury at the first-half buzzer and his absence in the second, Maccabi enjoyed a big night from Guy Pnini, who was awarded the Israeli League's MVP for December before tip-off. The Israeli forward led Maccabi in a torrid second quarter with three hits from downtown and continued to shine in the second half to pound his former team. After a close first quarter, Maccabi took off to a 53-40 halftime lead and continued to dominate. Pnini led all scorers with 23 points, Chuck Eidson added 17 points with 5 assists, Andrew Wisniewski scored 12, Raviv Limonad 11 and Stephane Lasme and David Bluthenthal had 10 points each. Leo Lyons scored 18 points to lead Hapoel, Brandon Hunter added 13, Yuval Naimy and Tre Simmons 12 each and Sharon Shason finished with 11. Elsewhere around the league Gilboa/Galil added another home win by beating Ironi Ramat Gan 87-77 as Elishay Kadir and Brian Randle scored 25 for Galil, which improved to 8-2. Maccabi Haifa stayed glued to Gilboa/Galil after an 86-68 triumph over Ironi Ashkelon as Davon Jefferson netted 21 points. Maccabi Rishon Lezion collected a key win against Hapoel Afula 91-76 victory behind 26 points by Larry O'Bannon. On Saturday, Bnei Hasharon earned an important win over Barak Netanya, 64-63, after Cookie Belcher scored with 22 ticks on the clock to decide the game.
