Dijon Thompson - Hapoel Jerusalem_23651The Israeli League regular season came to an end on Sunday with a foursome of best-of-five quarterfinals series set to decide which teams advance to the final four. In the quarters, defending champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv will take on Bnei Hasharon, Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem faces Maccabi Rishon Lezion, Gilboa/Galil gets Ironi Ashkelon and Maccabi Haifa takes on Barak Netanya. Meanwhile Ironi Nahariya will take on Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Afula faces Ironi Ramat Gan in best-of-five playout series in which the losing teams will be relegated to the National League. Maccabi avenged its only loss of the regular season and finished with a 21-1 record by routing Netanya 88-60, a result that cost the visitors homecourt advantage in the playoffs. Alan Anderson led Maccabi with 15 points. Jerusalem got a big night from Dijon Thompson to beat Haifa 74-78 as it climbed to second place. Bnei Hasharon bested Nahariya 78-66 in a head-to-head fight for the last playoff spot. Gilboa/Galil edged Afula 85-79 behind 21 points by Jeremy Pargo and 14 by Guni Izraeli. Rishon Lezion beat Ashkelon 81-73, while Ramat Gan shocked Holon on the road 66-90 as John Sharper scored 21 points and Gary Forbes added 20 points and 20 rebounds.

Maccabi avenged its only loss of the regular season and finished with a 21-1 record by routing Netanya 88-60. The visitors stayed in the game for two-and-a-half quarters, but saw Maccabi pull away with a 27-13 fourth quarter. Alan Anderson scored 15, Guy Pnini added 14 and David Bluthenthal scored 12 with 8 rebounds for Maccabi. Tony Washam led Netanya with 21 points and JR Pinnock added 12. Jerusalem beat Haifa 74-78 on got the help it needed elsewhere to reach second place in the standings. Hapoel led from the start and only a last-minute comeback by Haifa made it look closer than it was. Dijon Thompson had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners, followed by 15 points from Pooh Jeter and 11 each by Brandon Hunter and Yuval Naimy. Amit Ben-David scored 18 for Haifa, while Jason Rich added 15 and Richard Roby scored 12.
