Ksistof Lavrinovic - Montepaschi SienaAnother week, another win for defending champion Montepschi Siena, which downed Vanoli Cremona 83-70 behind 17 points and 11 boards from Ksistof Lavrinovic. Siena improved its league-best record to 24-1. The excitement is in the battle for second, which is now tie amongst five teams –Sigma Coatings Montegranaro, NGC Cantù, Pepsi Caserta, Armani Jeans Milano and Canadian Solar Bologna – with 16-9 records. Montegranaro and Bologna, which shared second entering the weekend, both lost. Joe Smith scored 24 points and dished 5 assists to help Angelico Biella scored a 76-73 win over Montegranaro. Cantu took a thrilling 76-80 road win over Bologna behind 17 points from Jerry Green. Caserta thrashed Benetton 90-66 after leading already 46-29 at halftime. Timmy Bowers led the way with 20 points. Armani Jeans beat Air Avellino 74-63 by staying in control for all 40 minutes. Massimo Bulleri paced the winners with 16 points. In a crucial game with relegation implications, Scavolini Pesaro took a 73-85 road win over Carife Ferrara behind 21 points from Michael Hicks and 16 from Dusan Sakoa. And Cimberio Varese got 31 points from Ronald Slay to beat Nuova AMG Sebastiani 120-57.

Montepaschi Siena downed Vanoli Cremona 83-70 led by 17 points and 11 boards from Ksistof Lavrinovic to improve its league-best record to 24-1. Terrell McIntyre added 13 points and David Hawkins 12 for the winners. Troy Bell led all the scorers with 19 for Vanoli and Marco Cusin amassed 16 points and 10 rebounds. The hosts took a slim 16-13 lead after ten minutes, but increased their pace in the second quarter to go up 40-27 at halftime. They reached their biggest margin, 61-45, early in the last quarter on a three-pointer posted by Marco Carraretto and remained in control till the final buzzer.

Pepsi Caserta thrashed Benetton 90-66 after leading already 46-29 at halftime. The cushion grew to 72-47 after 30 minutes as Timmy Bowers led five Caserta scorers in double figures with 20 points. Fabio Di Bella and Ebi Ere added 17 apiece and Philip Martin and Jumaine Jones scored 12 each. Benetton got 23 from 18 year-old-guard Alessandro Gentile. Armani Jeans Milano beat Air Avellino 74-63 by staying in control for all 40 minutes. Massimo Bulleri bagged 16 points, Marco Mordente added 15 and Jonas Maciulis 11 for the winners. Cenk Akyol netted 13 for Avellino. In the first quarter, Milano held the guests to just 9 points and led 15-9. Filip Dylewicz from mid range gave Avellino its only lead, 25-27, and after Sani Becirovic completed a three-point play, the hosts went on top and never looked back.
