Lithuanian Cup Final Four, Final, February 20, 2010
Lietuvos Rytas is the new Lithuanian Cup champ! In a much disputed title game on Saturday, L. Rytas managed to succeed in the end by downing archrival Zalgiris by 77-65. Martynas Gecevicius and Milko Bjelica led the winners with 18 points apiece while Arturas Jomantas and Kenan Bajramovic posted 14 each. For Zalgiris, Tadas Klimavicius led the way with 21 points, Martynas Pocius added 15 and Marcus Brown had 12. The first quarter saw both teams fighting for the lead as neither one managed to take solid leads as Martynas Gecevicius scored to tie the game at 10-10. However, after a few consecutive baskets, Martynas Pocius managed to score for Zalgiris to leave his team ahead after 10 minutes, 19-23. Tadas Klimavicius extended the lead even to six points, but L. Rytas reacted soon and thanks to a solid scoring run, they soon took the lead and even forged a 10-point lead, 40-30. Marcus Brown stepped up for Zalgiris but at thehalftime break, L. Rytas was still leading, 45-37. Travis Watson kept things going in the second half for Zalgiris, as the guests managed to trim the deficit down to 53-48 during the third period. Everything would be decided in the final installment, and Lietuvos Rytas started rolling with a 8-0 run that boosted the score to 61-48 solving half of the deal. Zalgiris managed to rim the deficit down during the following minutes with attempts from beyond the arc, but Lietuvos Rytas managed to contain the rival and dominated in the final minutes to achieve the first title of the season!
