Russian League Finals, Game 3: June 7, 2010
CSKA Moscow is once again the Russian League champion! CSKA lifted its eighth consecutive Russian League trophy by sweeping its best-of-five title series against BC Khimki Moscow region. It is its 17th crown since the Russian League was created in 1992 and its 41th counting Soviet Union titles. CSKA took care of business and won the title by downing Khimki 60-76 on the road in Game 3 on Monday. Ramunas Siskauskas paced the winners with 29 points on 10-of-10 two-pointers. Trajan Langdon added 13 while Nikita Kurbanov had 11 for CSKA. Keith Langford led Khimki with 18 points. Raul Lopez added 10 for the hosts. Langdon and Siskauskas combined for all points in a 2-14 opening run that gave CSKA the lead for good. Langford managed to get Khimki within 24-31 early in the second quarter but an outstanding Kurbanov singlehandedly kept CSKA way ahead, 30-43, at halftime. Nothing changed after the break, as even when Khimki managed to get within 49-57, Zoran Planinic and and unstoppable Siskauskas stepped up in the fourth quarter to seal the outcome, 54-71, long before the final buzzer..

Russian League, Season 2009-10
The 2009-10 Russian League starts with fewer teams, going down from 12 to just 9, to begin a new era for the competition. It is also the most unpredictable edition in recent years, even though CSKA is the main candidate to win its eight consecutive title. CSKA kept J.R. Holden, Ramunas Siskauskas, Trajan Langdon, Viktor Khryapa and Matjaz Smodis - enough to beat anyone, anywhere. The club brought back Nikita Kurbanov and Anton Ponkrashov, plus also inked center Dmitriy Sokolov. BC Khimki Moscow region will try to dethrone CSKA with players like Kelly McCarty, Timofey Mozgov, Carlos Cabezas, Raul Lopez, Vitaliy Fridzon and Keith Langford. Sergio Scariolo, who led Spain to win EuroBasket 2009, will now try to rewrite Russian League history by leading Khimki to its first title. Unics, Dynamo Moscow, Spartak St. Petersburg, Lokomotiv Kuban and Triumph Lyubertsy are ready to provide the upset and fight for a spot in the title series. Unics features Vladimir Veremeenko, Marko Popovic and Terrell Lyday as its main stars. Dynamo relies on Sergey Monya, Sergey Bykov and Aleksey Savrasenko, while Spartak inked Sharrod Ford, Zakhar Pashutin and Evgeniy Kolesnikov. Lokomotiv is a sleeper in this year's competition with players like Pero Antic, Nebojsa Joksimovic and Nikita Morgunov. All in all, the Russian league promises a hot winter for basketball fans.
