Turkish League, Regular Season, Game 11: December 22-24, 2009
The top three teams in the Turkish League distanced themselves from the rest of the pack with Week 11 victories in this midweek round of action. Efes Pilsen remains atop the table and improved to 10-1 by beating Oyak Renault on the road 69-76 behind a Preston Shumpert double-double. Fenerbahce Ulker and Besiktas ColaTurka are tied for second place with one win less than Efes. Fenerbahce edged Turk Telekom 68-70 on the road as Gordan Giricek netted 14 and Semih Erden had 10 points and 9 boards. Besiktas blasted Banvit 107-88 as Engin Atsur, Lonny Baxter and Cevher Ozer all scored at least 20. Galatasaray Cafe Crown held off Mersin BSB 90-92 for its third straight win. Rado Rancik shined with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Gala. In other games, Erdemir defeated Aliaga Petkim 94-101 thanks to 33 points and 8 rebounds from Nate Funk, Antalya outlasted Pinar Karsiyaka 87-83 as Aaron Jackson went for 19 point, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, Tofas downed Darussafaka Cooper Tires 75-77 and Bornova Belediye topped Kepez Belediye 85-77.
Efes Pilsen remains atop the table and improved to 10-1 by beating Oyak Renault on the road 69-76 behind a Preston Shumpert double-double. Efes pulled away early to take a double-digit lead in the opening quarter and led 33-43 at halftime. Oyak put some pressure on in the second half, but Efes proved up for the challenge. Shumpert recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Efes, while Kerem Tunceri directed the attack with 8 points and 6 assists. Josh Heytvelt led Oyak with 20 points. Fenerbahce edged Turk Telekom 68-70 on the road as Gordan Giricek netted 14 and Semih Erden had 10 points and 9 boards. In a close game, FB Ulker pulled ahead 27-34 at halftime and held the slim lead down the stretch to eke out the win. Tarence Kinsey added 11 for the winners, while Huseyin Besok led Telekom with 16 points and Ersin Dagli scored 10.
Besiktas ColaTurka blasted Banvit 107-88 as Engin Atsur, Lonny Baxter and Cevher Ozer all scored at least 20. The hosts led just 56-54 at the half, but surged ahead in a 30-14 third quarter to take control. Atsur shined with 25 points and 7 assists – both season highs – Baxter and Ozed netted 20 each, Mire Chatman had 19 points and 8 rebounds and Muratcan Guler scored 11. Lance Williams paced Banvit with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Galatasaray Cafe Crown held off Mersin BSB 90-92 for its third straight win. The visitors took a double-digit lead in the opening quarter and remained ahead the rest of the way, entering the fourth quarter up 60-70. James Barton fueled a Mersin comeback to get within a basket, but the visitors held on at the end. Rado Rancik shined with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, Mike Wilkinson added 19 points and 9 rebounds and Simas Jasaitis and Darius Washington scored 16 apiece for the winners. Barton led Mersin with 25 points.
