Turkish League Finals, Game 1: May 20, 2010
Tarence Kinsey - Fenerbahce UlkerFenerbahce Ulker struck a blow to open the Turkish League finals on Thursday by defeating archrival Efes Pilsen 62-78 in an away game to open the best-of-seven series. Great ball movement leading to 18 assists, including 7 by Roko-Leni Ukic and 6 by Tarence Kinsey, was a major factor for the winners, while poor 1-for-15 three-point shooting badly hurt Efes. Ukic, Kinsey and Mirsad Turkcan led Fenerbahce with 12 points each, while Emir Preldzic added 11 and Semih Erden 10. For Efes, Mario Kasun had 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Kaya Peker and Bootsy Thornton scored 11 and 10, respectively. Fenerbahce raced ahead 9-21 after one quarter and forced Efes to play catchup the rest of the way. The hosts were able to cut the difference to 29-44 at halftime, but could do no better than 44-60 after three quarters. Ender Arslan, Charles Smith and Thornton rallied Efes as close as 51-64 , but Ukic steadied the visitors with help from Omer Onan and Fenerbahce had a 1-0 lead in the series.
