Spirou Basket Charleroi leads the Belgian League standings with a 14-1 record but Generali Okapi Aalstar is not far away at 14-3. Spirou topped VOO Verviers-Pepinster 75-67 in Charleroi on Saturday. Demond Mallet led the winners with 16 points. Brent Wright added 14 while Justin Hamilton had 10 for Spirou, that trailed 42-52 early in the third quarter. Spirou rallied within 55-59 after 30 minutes and regained the lead, 64-62, soon after that. Pepinster tied the game at 67-67 but a final 8-0 run allowed Spirou to win the game. Okapi thrashed Antwerp Giants 89-61 at home. In other games, Leuven Bears overwhelmed Optima Gent 74-52 while Belgacom Liege Basket topped Telenet BC Oostende 83-73.
