Maccabi Electra 2011 Israeli League champ (Photo BSL)Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv regained the Israeli League crown after a one-season absence on Thursday by routing Gilboa Galil 91-64 in the title game at Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv. Maccabi avenged its defeat to the same squad in last season’s final. Maccabi never trailed in picking up its 49th Israeli championship. Team captain Derrick Sharp was joined by injured guard Doron Perkins to lift the championship plate as the fans cheered on. David Blu was named MVP after drilling 5 three-pointers to lead Maccabi with 19 points. Chuck Eidson scored 13, Lior Eliyahu 12, Guy Pnini 11 and Jeremy Pargo tallied 9 points and 10 assists. Courtney Fells paced Galil with 25 points and Marko Killingsworth added 11 in defeat. Sofoklis Schortsanitis scored twice as Maccabi opened the game on a 10-0 tear and never looked back. The lead reached 18 midway through the second quarter and settled at 47-35 by halftime. Maccabi climbed ahead by 20 late in the third quarter and the lead peaked at 29 in the closing minutes. Earlier Hapoel Jerusalem claimed third place by beating Maccabi Rishon Lezion 94-74 behind 24 points from Yuval Naimy.
