David Blu - Maccabi Electra_29127The Israeli League regular season hit the halfway point this weekend with Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem registering victories, while Hapoel Gilboa/Galil Elyon dropped another home game. Maccabi Electra beat Maccabi Haifa 101-92 in front of its fans after holding a much bigger lead throughout most of the game. The win lifted Maccabi to 8-1 while Haifa dropped to the last spot in the table with a 2-6 record. David Blu led Maccabi with 23 points and Sofoklis Schortsanitis added 20 with 9 rebounds, but left the game after landing badly on his leg. Sylvan Landsberg paced Haifa with 26 points. Jerusalem beat Maccabi Netanya 91-75 at home despite missing Brian Randle and Yogev Ohayon. Willie Solomon and Jason Rich scored 19 each and Lior Hakhmon delivered 14 for the winners, who improved to 6-3. Romeo Travis led Netanya with 16 points. Gilboa/Galil dropped another home game when newcomer Maccabi Ashdod recorded an 83-89 upset. The teams are now tied at 5-4 in the top half of the standings. Josh Carter scored 28 and Ramel Bradley 21 for Ashdod. Dagan Yivzori led the home team with 18 points and Gal Mekel added 16 with 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Ironi Ashkelon upset Bnei Hasharon 91-80 behind a huge performance by Rahshon Turner who posted all league season highs with 34 points and an index rating of 47.
