Israeli League, Regular Season, Game 21: March 12-14, 2011
Doron Perkins - Maccabi Electra_30468Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv won its 14th consecutive game in the Israeli League and avenged its only domestic loss of the season, but had to work hard to do so. Maccabi edged Bnei Hasharon 88-90 after overtime to improve to 20-1 in the standings. It was a tough 45 minutes for both teams. Maccabi led much of the night and went ahead 55-68 on a David Blu triple early in the fourth quarter, but Bnei Hasharon battled back and had a chance to win it in the final seconds when Ronald Steele went to the line with his team down 1, but only made 1 of 2 free throws and the game went to an extra session at 79-79. The game was tied three more times in overtime, but with Maccabi up 1 in the last minute, the visitors’ defense stymied the hosts, forced a 24-second violation and secured a tough win. Doron Perkins led all Maccabi scorers with 16 points plus 6 assists, Guy Pnini netted 14 and Lior Eliyahu 12 for head coach David Blatt. Shawn James owned the paint with 17 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks and Steele finished with 15 points and 5 assists in defeat. The result allowed Hapoel Jerusalem to move into even terms with Bnei Hasharon for second place at 13-8 after the former routed Holon 102-68. Yuval Naimy scored 23 and Willie Solomon added 19 for Jerusalem. Gilboa/Galil topped Barak Netanya 85-76 behind 17 points and 9 rebounds from newcomer Marco Killingsworth and Maccabi Haifa bested Ashdon 73-66.
