Latvia League, Regular Season, Game 1: October 2-6, 2010

VEF Juniors became the first leader atop the Latvian League standings by downing Ventspils 76-66 in Riga. Dairis Bertans paced the winners against his former team with 27 points on 5-of-8 three-pointer and 9 assists. Gatis Jahovics and Kaspars Berzins each added 16 for VEF. Berzins added 8 rebounds and 8 blocks to barely miss a triple-double. VEF led 62-58 after 30 minutes and only allowed 8 points in the fourth quarter, enough to add its first win. Liepajas Lauvas had a strong start by edging Zemgale 100-91 in overtime at home. Ashton Mitchell paced the winners with 24 points. Mareks Jurevicus added 22 for Lauvas. Last but not least, Zemgale defeated LU 88-98 behind 21 points and 15 rebounds from Ilmars Bergmanis.
