Kaspars Berzins - VEF RigaVentspils leads the Latvian League standings with a 14-2 record. Liepajas Lauvas ranks second at 14-7. VEF Juniors dropped to 11-8 due to a 72-77 home loss against Barons/O!Karte on Monday, in a rematch of last year's finals. Sandis Silavs led Barons with 17 points. Artsiom Parakhouski paced VEF with 18 points. Trevon Hughes and Kaspars Berzins each added 13 while Kristaps Janicenoks had 12 for VEF, that trailed 24-39 at halftime. VEF rallied in the second half to get within 72-74 with 15 seconds left but it was too little, too late for the hosts. Valmiera also downed VEF 72-62 at home on Wednesday. Oskars Virsis led Valmiera with 18 points. Berzins had 13 points for VEF while Parahouski, Dairis Bertans and Sandis Valters each had 10 for the guests. In other games, Lauvas beat BA Turiba 76-67 while Valmiera overwhelmed LU 93-65 with 21 points and 15 rebounds from Arturas Valeika.
