Union Olimpija Ljubljana beat Krka 63-69 on the road Tuesday to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five Slovenian League finals series. Jaka Klobucar starred early with 13 points in a 0-18 second-quarter run that put Olimpija in control, Goran Jagodnik stepped up late in the third quarter after Krka came back to briefly take the lead and Kenny Gregory sealed the win with 4 points on the last two possessions. Olimpija now heads home for Game 4 with a chance to wrap up its 16th league championship. Klobucar finished with 15 points in 16 minutes to lead the winners, Gregory added 12 and Damir Markota tallied 11 points and 7 rebounds. Jure Balazic paced Krka with 15 points, Dusan Djordjevic added 12 points and 8 assists before fouling out, and Zoran Dragic had 11 points and 9 rebounds in defeat. Krka took charge early with Balazic guiding the team to an 8-2 start and the lead hitting 21-10 before a Jagodnik triple made it 23-15 at halftime. But after Edo Muric restored Krka’s double-digit edge in the second quarter, Klobucar simply took over, drilling 3 three-pointers and scoring 13 points in a 0-18 charge that put Olimpija ahead. Even after Krka righter the ship, Markota sank back-to-back threes to put Olimpija up 11. Still Djordjevic came up with a pair of baskets to make it 32-39 at halftime. Krka continued rolling in the third quarter, first tying the score at 42-42 on a Djordjevic jumper and later going ahead on a Balazic free throw. Jagodnik and Klobucar teamed up for 7 quick points to put Olimpija up 45-52 with 10 minutes to play. Krka continued to mount rallies in the fourth quarter, getting within 56-60 on a Goran Ikonic triple midway the quarter. B Krivec put fear into the visitors with a three to cut the difference to 63-65 with 49 seconds left. But with the game on the line, Gregory came through with a pair of scores to seal the win and series lead.
