Dutch League Finals, Game 7: May 29, 2011
Zorg en Zekerheid is the Dutch League champion! In one of the most thrilling games in Dutch League history, Zorg en Zekerheid won its first title since 1978 by downing GasTerra Flames 96-95 in triple overtime in Leiden on Sunday. Monta McGhee paced the winners with 27 points. Seamus Boxley added 16 while Arvin Slagter and Thomas Jackson each had 13 for ZZ Leiden. Jason Dourisseau led GasTerra with 23 points. Matt Haryasz and Matt Bauscher each added 18 for the guests. Boxley had 10 points early in the game, leading Zorg en Zekerheid a 26-18 to lead after 10 minutes. The hosts got their biggest lead, 38-27, near halftime. Haryasz and Dourisseau fueled a 0-9 run that got the guests within 44-43. Boxley and McGhee helped Zorg en Zekerheid to regain a 54-50 edge after 30 minutes. A three-pointer by Dourisseau completed the guests' comeback, 62-64, with under 6 minutes to go. Slagter stepped up for ZZ Leiden but a key basket by John Turek and a free throw by Haryasz sent the game to overtime, 69-69. Bauscher gave GasTerra a 73-77 edge but McGhee followed a triple with 4-of-4 free throws to force double overtime, 80-80. A free throw by Ross Bekkering took the game to a third extra period, 86-86. McGhee and Jackson led a 6-0 run that put ZZ Leiden ahead for good, 96-93, with 19 seconds left. A tactic foul helped the hosts to seal the outcome and start celebrating the title!
