Galatasaray Cafe Crown won its first Turkish League finals game in more than two decades by holding off Fenerbache Ulker 97-93 in overtime on Thursday in Istanbul. FB Ulker still leads the best-of-seven series by 2-1. Galatasaray's victory was its first in a domestic league final since it won its last national title in 1990. Evren Buker's basket in the next-to-last minute of overtime put Galatasaray ahead for good and assured the series will reach at least five games. Ermal Kuqo set the pace early and led the winners with 20 points, while Jerry Johsnon had 18 more, Joshua Shipp and Preston Shumpert 14 each, Luksa Andric and Caner Topaloglu 10 each. FB Ulker got 18 points each from Omer Onan and Roko Ukic, plus 16 from Darjus Lavrinovic. The high scoring started early as Galatasaray raced to a 23-21 advantage after 10 minutes based on 11 quick points from Kuqo. The hosts stayed one step ahead and reached a high lead of 49-36 as Johnson and Shumpert joined Kuqo in an 11-4 run, although FB Ulker responded by trimming the difference to 50-45 at halftime. Shortly after the break, FB Ulker's Emir Preldzic tied it up 52-52 on a three-pointer, but Galatasaray went to Kuqo and Shipp to stay ahead 72-67 after 3 quarters. FB Ulker tied again at 78-78 with 5 minutes left, bu Johnson soon put Galatasaray up 84-80, after which the scoreboard stalled for 3 full minutes. Free throws by Sarunas Jasikevicius and Ukic's last basket, with 23 seconds left, sent the game to overtime at 84-84. In the extra 5 minutes, wo more ties came and went, at 88-88 and 90-90, with FB Ulker still unable to take a lead. Evren Buker and Johnson made it 94-90, and despite a three-pointer next from Jasikevicius, Galatasaray hung onto the victory thanks to free throws from Andric and Shipp.
