Ukrainian League Finals, Game 6: May 29, 2011
It will all go down to do-or-die Game 7 in the Ukrainian League finals, as Budivelnik survived a make-or-break test by topping Donetsk 61-59 in Kyiv on Sunday. Series is tied at 3-3 but Donetsk hosts Game 7 on Tuesday. Lamayne Wilson led the winners with 18 points. Zach Morley added 15 for Budivelnik. Jasmin Hukic led Donetsk with 14 points while JK Edwards added 11. Wilson led an 8-0 run that allowed Budivelnik to get an early 14-5 lead. Hucic and Dmytro Glebov rescued Donetsk, leading a 4-18 run that allowed the guests to get a five-point lead, 18-23. Donetsk boosted its margin to 22-28 but Denys Lukashov and Denys Ikovlev brought Budivelnik within 27-29 at halftime. Budivelnik improved its defense after the break. Meanwhile, Wilson, Ikovlev and free throws by Billy Keys gave their team a 40-38 edge at the end of the third quarter. A three-pointer by Sasa Vasiljevic put Donetsk back ahead, 50-51, with 4 minutes to go. Keys made foul shots and Morley struck from downtown for a 55-51 Budivelnik lead with less than 2 minutes left. A tip-in by Andy Betts and back-to-back baskets by an outstanding Morley allowed Budivelnik to stay alive in the competition and keep fighting for the Ukrainian League title.
