Adriatic League, Regular Season, Game 1: October 7-9, 2011
The Turkish Airlines Euroleague teams of the Adriatic League fared well in their respective openers with only KK Zagreb losing, but that loss coming against another Euroleague side, Partizan mt:s. The league leader through the opening weekend is Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, which is 3-0 thanks to having several games moved up in its schedule. Maccabi beat Krka Novo Mesto and Zlatorog Lasko each by double figures in Slovenia and then took Cibona 97-81 in the home opener. All-Euroleague center Sofoklis Schortsanitis averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and a block in the wins, while point guard Jordan Farmar accounted for 12 points and 4.7 assists. The first all-Turkish Airlines Euroleague clash of the season went to Partizan, which bested Zagreb 65-93 on the road. Nikola Pekovic controlled the paint with 17 points on near-perfect shooting plus 9 rebounds for the winners. Olimpija downed Lasko 89-77 as Damir Markota stood out with 16 points and 8 boards. Cedevita was sharp in an all-Eurocup duel with Buducnost, cruising to a 92-62 victory Matjaz Smodis and Marko Car scored 14 each. Cibona came from 5 down in the last minute to force overtime on a Damjan Rudez three-pointer before beating Radnicki 94-98. In other games, Adam Morrison scored 23 and Petar Popovic scored 19 and grabbed 9 boards for Crvena Zvezda in a 104-89 win over Hemofarm Stada and Siroki WWin edged Helios Domzale 90-92 on Zeljko Sakic’s last-second free throws.
Maccabi Electra opened its Adriatic League season with a 68-83 win at Krka Novo Mesto. All-Euroleague center Sofoklis Schortsanitis roared for 18 points in 22 minutes and Devin Smith and Jordan Farmar added 11 each as took an early double-digit lead and coasted to victory. Jerome Jordan paced Krka with 15 points. The Israeli champs followed that with a 72-101 pasting of Zlatorog Lasko as Big Sofo went off for 18 points and 9 rebounds in 14 minutes! Lior Eliyahu also scored 18 and Guy Pnini added 12 among five Maccabi scorers in double figures. Maccabi returned home to beat Cibona 97-81 for its third win. Smith made 5 three-pointers en route to 19 points, Farmar tallied 19 points and 7 assists and Schortsanitis added 11 for the victors. Brian Chase scored 17 and dished 6 assists and Tomislav Zubcic added 16 points in defeat.

Union Olimpija downed Lasko 89-77 as Damir Markota stood out with 16 points and 8 boards. Ratko Varda added 15 points among six Olimpija scorers in double figures.
Cedevita was sharp in an all-Eurocup duel with Buducnost, cruising to a 92-62 victory Matjaz Smodis and Marko Car scored 14 each and Vedran Vukusic added 12 for a balanced Cedevita, which led 40-28 at halftime and ended any doubt regarding the outcome with a big third quarter. Nikola Vucevic led Buducnost with 11 points. Cibona came from 5 down in the last minute to force overtime on a Damjan Rudez three-pointer before beating Radnicki 94-98. Brian Chase scored a crucial basket-plus-foul in the last minute of the overtime period to put Cibona ahead for good and Rudez iced the win with 2 free throws in the closing seconds. Rudez finished with 22 points, Chase had 16 points and 7 assists and Antoine Barbour scored 14 for the winners.
