Adriatic League, Regular Season, Game 19: February 3-6, 2012
There were big wins for three of the top teams in the Adriatic League over the weekend, while Cibona stopped Buducnost in another key clash. First-placed Maccabi Electra routed Union Olimpija 63-83 on the road Saturday night as David Blu scored 17 and Richard Hendrix posted 14 points and 10 rebounds. Maccabi led 34-39 at halftime and then pulled away in the third quarter to secure its 18th win in 19 games. Sofoklis Schortsanitis added 11 points and Devin Smith 10 for the Israeli champs. Former Maccabi guard Goran Jeretin paced Olimpija with 18 points. Cedevita Zagreb scored a 63-74 road win at Krka Novo Mesto to improve to 14-4 and remain in second place. A 10-23 opening quarter set the stage for Cedevita. Dontaye Draper scored 17 and Matjaz Smodis added 12 each for the winners. Jure Lalic and Smiljan Pavic scored 13 apiece for Krka. Partizan mts and Buducnost Voli are tied for third at 13-5 after the former won big and the latter lost. Partizan destroyed Zlatorog Lasko 90-50 as Danilo Andrusic scored 17 and Milan Macvan 13 as part of a well-balanced attack. Cibona bested Buducnost 80-74 after leading by double figures in the first quarter. Davor Kus scored 17 and Goran Suton 11 for Cibona. Cedomir Vitkovac paced Buducnost with 22 points. And in one of the weekend’s most-exciting finishes, Sean May’s three-point play in the closing seconds lifted Zagreb CO to an 81-82 win at Helios Domzale. Klemen Prepelic missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer. Mario Kasun led Zagreb with 22 points and May had 16.
