Baltic League, regular season, Game 1: Sep. 30- Oct. 2, 2011

The Baltic League was, as usual, among the first to start play in Europe for the 2011-12 season. The action got underway Friday with Ventspils rolling over Liepajas Lauvas 85-59. After a close first quarter, the hosts dominated the middle two quarters 51-26 to seal the outcome. Young point guard Lauris Blaus paced the winners with 14 points and Janis Strelnieks added 13. In Saturday’s games, Rudupis bested Kedainiai/Triobet on the road 76-85 behind 15 points from Gintaras Kadziulis, while Baltai edged Kalev/Cramo 75-77 as Zygimantas Janavicius netted 13. University of Tartu wrapped up the opening weekend by beating Baltai 86-78 as Vallo Allingu stood tall with 21 points and 7 rebounds.
