Belgian League, Regular Season, Game 9: November 19, 2011
In the central game in the Belgian League, Belgacom Spirou Charleroi downed Telenet Oostende 80-75 to stay atop the able with a 6-1 record. Demond Mallet was the main main for the hosts with 24 points and Spirou overwhelmed Oostende 34-22 in rebounding, with Torko Shengelia pulling down 9. The game was very balanced with Spirou leading 41-39 at halftime, but at the end of the third quarter, back-to-back triples by Chris Hill and Mallet opened the difference and put the hosts ahead 67-53. Oostende climbed within 74-73 thanks to the three-pointers by Veselin Petrovic and Dusan Sakota, but an amazing block by veteran Andre RIddick and four consecutive free throws drained by Mallet closed the contest. Chris Beghin added 13 and Caleb Green 11 for Spirou, while, Jason Rich had 17, Dusan Sakota 16 and Veselin Petrovic 12 for Oostende, which has now a 5-3 record. Antwerp Giants downed Dexia Mons-Hainaut 67-55 to improve to 5-3. The hosts dominated the game in the paint, scoring with its big men 48 of its points. Tunisian center Salah Mejiri amassed a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Timothy Black had 10 points. AJ Slaughter wasthe main contributor for Mons with 12 points and Warren Carter added 10. Mons led 24-28 at halftime and 37-40 at the end of the third quarter, but was unable to contain the hosts in a 26-15 run over the last 10 minutes. Liege took a thrilling 77-76 success over Okapi Alstar led by 17 points nailed from Dominic Waters and 13 by Josh Bostic. The losers got 20 from Kevin Kruger and 15 from Stefon Jackson. Leuven thrashed Verviers-Pepinster 101-68 as Brandon Freeman drilled 26 points.
