Cibona took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five Croatian League finals by downing Cedevita 84-77 in Game 1 on Saturday. Davor Kus led the winners with 18 points. Khalid El-Amin added 14, Damjan Rudez had 13 while Goran Suton and Pavle Marcinkovic each got 12 for Cibona. Miro Bilan led Cedevita with 20 points. Dontaye Draper added 14 while Marko Car had 12 for the guests. Draper and Vedran Vukusic gave Cedevita an early 6-9 lead but Rudez and El-Amin stepped up late in the first quarter and a layup by Goran Suton made it a six-point game, 23-17, after 10 minutes. Bilan singlehandedly brought Cedevita within 28-26 but a 9-2 run that Kus capped with a jumper boosted the hosts' lead to 37-28 late in the first half. Marino Badzaric and Bilan brought Cedevita as close as 39-35 at halftime. Free throws by Chris Owens and Draper completed the guests' comeback, 43-46, right after the break. Cedevita entered the foul penalty too early and free throws by Marcinkovic, Andrija Zizic and El-Amin made Cibona regain the lead, 61-58, after 30 minutes. A layup by Draper still get Cedevita within 66-62 but Cibona rolled in the final 7 minutes. Five unanswered points by Marcinkovic in an 11-2 run that Suton capped with a bomb from downtown, 77-64, enough to stay ahead for good, as Cedevita only rallied once the outcome was clear
