Greek League, Regular Season, Game 22: March 7, 2012
Olympiacos and Panathinaikos registered comfortable wins Wednesday in their last games before Saturday’s Greek Cup final. At the Peace and Friendship Stadium, the Greek-League leading Reds thrashed Ikaros 100-63 after already leading by 20 at halftime. Olympiacos remains atop the standings with a 20-1 record. Kostas Papanikolaou paced his team with 16 points, Marko Keselj added 12, Kyle Hines 11 and Vangelis Mantzaris and Joey Dorsey scored 10 points apiece, while Vassilis Spanoulis tallied 7 points and dished 10 assists. Acie Law didn't play due to a leg injury that may keep him out of the Greek Cup final. For Ikaros, Jimmy Baxter and Romel Beck tallied 11 points apiece. In Aghios Thomas, Panathinaikos didn't have any difficulty to overwhelm host Maroussi 56-96 and improve its record to 18-2. Nick Calathes posted 13 points, 4 boards and 4 assists, Sarunas Jasikevicius tallied 12 points, Ian Vougioukas recorded 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks and Aleks Maric added 9 points and 11 boards. Mike Batiste and Stratos Perperoglou didn't play due to injuries and their participation in the Greek Cup final is in doubt. For Maroussi, Dimitris Agravanis produced 15 points and 7 boards. In other games, Aris escaped with a 74-79 win over host Ilissiakos and improved its record to 8-12. Dimitris Tsaldaris paced the Yellows with 25 points, including 5-of-9 three-point shooting, Sam Muldrow recorded 13 points and Ronald Davis 11. Nikos Hatzis of Ilissiakos scored 11 in his 500th appearance in the Greek League. PAOK came off a 42-45 deficit to edge Kolossos 67-60 behind Uros Duvnjak’s 14 points; Rethimno posted its fifth consecutive win by downing Peristeri 75-46 behind 21 points and 9 boards from Brent Petway and Kavala edged Drama 100-86 as Michael Taylor shined with 40 points.
