Israeli League, Regular Season, Game 11: December 25-26, 2011
The Israeli League reached its midway point this week with Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv celebrating a huge road win over last placed Bnei Hasharon/Herzlia 73-113 to remain atop the table with a 9-1 record. Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem suffered a heavy road defeat 81-59 to BC Habikaa, which lefts Gilboa/Galil alone in second place at 7-3. Bnei Hasharon led 24-23 early in the second quarter after a three pointer by Tweety Carter, but the champs went on a 9-25 run and finished the first half ahead 36-48. Shawn James, Richard Hendrix and Devin Smith led Maccabi to a big third quarter in which the visitors scored 38 points and decided the game. Shawn James scored 20 points for Maccabi against his former club and Richard Hendrix added 20 as well as 12 rebounds. Devin Smith scored 17 and David Blu 12 for the victors. Carter scored 24 in defeat and Delroy James, brother of Maccabi's Shawn, had 18. Jerusalem dropped to 6-4 with a resounding defeat to Habikaa. The hosts grabbed a 9-point gap already in the first quarter and ex-Hapoel Dion Dowell made the push late in the second quarter to reach the halftime break with a 40-25 lead, from which the visitors never ecovered. Rashaun Freeman led the winners with 20 points and Dowell added 19 points and 15 rebounds. Guni Izareli and Elishay Kadir had 12 points each for Hapoel. In other games, Gilboa/Galil picked up a 97-75 win over Maccabi Ashdod as Romeo Travis scored 25 points, Maccabi Rishon Lezion edged Bazan Haifa 76-74 on Joe Crawford’s game-winner and Greentops Netanya bested Eldan Ashkelon lost 84-86 as Eric Hicks celebrated his birthday with the game-winning shot.
