Montepaschi Siena is back atop the Italian League standings after surviving an overtime thriller against Novipiu Casale Monferrato one day after Bennet Cantu hammered EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. Montepaschi blew a 7-point fourth-quarter lead and Casale went ahead 74-76 on a David Chiotti basket in the final minute of regulation, but David Andersen evened the score and overtime ensued. The game went down to the final seconds in overtime as well. After a pair of Igor Rakocevic free throws put Siena ahead 87-85, Mustafa Shakur converted just 1 with 7 seconds left for Casale, which ultimately sealed the game’s fate. Andersen finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners, who improved to 9-2. Bootsy Thornton and Rakocevic added 14 points each and Bo McCalebb added 13 points and 6 assists. Matt Janning led Casale with 16 points. Cantu blasted Milan 79-54 in a one-sided affair that was essentially decided by halftime, 43-19. Manu Markoishvili scored 17, Maarty Leunen 14 and Vladimir Micov 13 to lead the winners, who are now tied for fifth place at 7-5. Malik Hairston led second-placed Milan with 13 points. Idle Angelico Biella and Canadian Solar Bologna, which beat Benetton Basket 74-61, are tied for third place with 7-4 records. Petteri Koponen tallied 15 points and 6 assists and Giuseppe Poeta had 14 points and 8 assists for the winners.
