Italian League, Regular Season, Game 32: April 28-29, 2012
The standings atop the Italian League saw no changes this week as leader Montepaschi Siena tripped up Banco de Sardegna Sassari 92-85 to raise its record to 23-7, and both Bennet Cantu and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan both won to remain locked in second place at 20-10. Montepaschi built up a 50-38 halftime lead then held off Sardegna’s attempt at a comeback, using its trademark ball movement on offense to get off 31 two-pointers compared with 20 for the opposition. Ksistof Lavrinovic hit a perfect 10 of 10 from two-point range to pace the winners with 25 points, while Pietro Aradori tallied 20 and Bo McCalebb added 15 along with 7 assists. Bennet Cantu squeaked past Angelico Biella 76-77, getting an edge from three-point range, where it hit 10 of 24 compared with 7 of 18 for the hosts. Doron Perkins paced Cantu with 20 points, while Nicolas Mazzarino netted 14 and Maarten Meunen added 11. Those three combined for 8 of 16 from deep. Milan pounded Banca Tercas Teramo 83-64, amassing a 69-34 lead after 30 minutes then coasting the rest of the way. Omar Cook knocked down 16 points, Alesandro Gentile added 12 along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Malik Hairston had 11 points to lead the winners. Canadian Solar Bologna bested Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro 73-64, forming a three-way for third place among Bologna, Pesaro and Sardegna with 18-12 records. Benetton Treviso took care of Umana Venezia 61-72, getting its offense in gear after a 7-7 first -quarter tie. Massimo Bulleri led the way with 16 points, including 3 of 3 from downtown, while Marcus Goree had 13. In other games, Novipiu Casale Monferrato downed Acea Roma 70-76, Cimberio Varese ousted Vanoli Braga Cremona 78-66 and Fabi Shoes Montegranaro outdueled Otto Caserta 96-85. Sidigas Avellino has a scheduled bye this week.
