Malik Hairston - EA7 Emporio Armani_37493EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Banco di Sardegna Sassari advanced to the Italian League semifinals, while Cimberio Varese and Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro both won to stay alive. Armani swept Umana Venezia on Tuesday and Sassari did the same to Canadian Solar Bologna the day before. Varese topped defending champ Montepaschi Siena and Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro beat Bennet Cantu to force Game 4 in both of those series. Armani took care of Venice 80-82 on Malik Hairston’s late game winner. The hosts led by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter before Hairston and Alessandro Gentile led the comeback. A 0-8 run put Milan up 76-79 before Guido Rosselli tied it for Venezia, however Hairston had the last word. Hairston finished with 20 points to lead the winners, Omar Cook added 12 points and 6 assists and Stefano Mancinelli also scored 12. Keydren Clark led Venezia with 20 points. Sassari became the first team into the semifinals thanks to Manuel Vanuzzo’s three-pointer at the buzzer. Sassari edged Bologna 71-72 on the road to sweep the series. After Giuseppe Poeta put the hosts up 71-66 in the final minute, Drake Diener scored once from the line, grabbed his own miss and scored again and then after a Bologna miss, Vanuzzo made club history with a memorable three. Quinton Hosley paced the winners with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Cimberio Varese came from behind to stun Montepaschi Siena 73-70. The defending champs seemed to be in total control after a 9-18 first quarter and led by 11 at halftime, but Varese turned the game on its head as Rok Stipcevic scored 10 in a 26-11 third quarter. The game remained tight down the stretch with Rimantas Kaukenas closing the gap to 69-68 with just over a minute to go, however Stipcevic made 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Stipcevic finished with 19 points and Yakhouba Diawara netted 12 for the winners. Kaukenas tallied 16 points and 7 boards in defeat. Pesaro controlled the second half to top Cantu 91-78. After a high-scoring first half, Cantu was held to just 30 second-half points. Jumaine Jones and James White led the way with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Greg Brunner paced Cantu with 18.
