David Andersen - Montepaschi Siena_37979Montepaschi Siena moved on to the Italian League semifinals on Wednesday and Scavolini Siviglia Pesaro forced a fifth-and-deciding game in its series against Bennet Cantu on Thursday. Siena routed Cimberio Varese 75-91 to win that series 3-1 and set up a semifinals duel with Banco di Sardegna Sassari. Pesaro downed Cantu 80-68 and they will meet for the series on Saturday. The winner get EA7 Emporio Armani in the semis. Siena won thanks to an amazing shooting performance. The defending champs made 11 of 19 attempts from long distance and 24 of 37 two-pointers. David Andersen led the way with 19 points, Bo McCalebb and Ksistof Lavrinovic bagged 15 apiece and Pietro Aradori 11. Yakhoba Diawara drilled 26 and Phil Goss 20 for Varese. Lavrinovic scored in the paint for a 21-30 lead early in the second quarter. Nikos Zisis stretched the lead to it 33-45, but Diego Fajardo scored for a 35-45 halftime score. Aradori nailed a shot from behind the arc to make it 42-63 midway through the third quarter and Lavrinovic extended the lead further to 54-77 early in the last quarter as Siena coasted to victory. Pesaro started on fire against Cantu by taking a 20-6 margin late in the first quarter on a three-point-play completed by Daniel Hackett. The home team enlarged the difference at halftime to 40-21 and reached a bigger cushion, 63-38, on a three-point shot by Daniele Cavaliero late in the third quarter. An 18-4 Cantu run in the first part of the last quarter made it 67-55 on a layup from Manuchar Markoishvili, but 7 unanswered points by Scavolini rejected the comeback attempt and the series is now tied at 2-2. Richard Hickman contributed with 20 points for Scavolini, James White bagged 15, Marco Cusin 12 and Daniel Hackett drilled 11. Markohisvili and Gianluca Basile posted 11 for Cantru, while Nicolas Mazzarino and Doron Perkins added 10 each.
