Lithuanian League, Regular Season, Game 1: October 1-6, 2011

Zalgiris stormed out of the gates in the Lithuanian League with a pair of road wins. The defending champs defeated Naglis 68-75 in their opener behind 15 points apiece from Sonny Weems and Robertas Javtokas. Zalgiris took the lead midway through the third quarter and though Naglis kept it close, Zalgiris never faltered and hung on for the win. Two days later head coach Ilias Zouros’s men took care of Sakalai 69-84 as Weems came through with 19 points. He was one of five Zalgiris scorers in double figures. Mantas Kalnietis tallied 11 points and 7 assists and Javtokas and Mindaugas Kuzminskas posted 11 points and 8 boards each. Lietuvos Rytas picked up its first win by trouncing Naglis 51-71. Lawrence Roberts was good for 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners, while Renaldas Seibutis netted 12. The opening game of the league’s season saw Neptunas beat Techasas 80-60 and later Siauliai got its first win by beating Neptunas 85-76.
