Lithuanian Cup final: February 18, 2012
Zalgiris Kaunas coasted to its second consecutive Lithuanian Cup title and fourth in six seasons by blowing away Pasvalio Pieno Zvaigzdes by 99-62 on Saturday. Zalgiris was playing its sixth consecutive final while Pasvalio, a second-division club until this season, was already celebrating the highest achievment in its history just by reaching the tournament's final four. The difference in experience showed as Zalgiris went ahead 9-2 early on 5 points from Milovan Rakovic and never looked back. Pasvalio got as close as 13-9 at one one point, but by the end of one quarter it was 20-9. The Zalgiris run reached 13-2 on a triple by Marko Popovic at 26-11, but the best was yet to come. Zalgiris soon busted out on a 21-0 run over 6 minutes as Tomas Delininkaitis scored 5 points to coast into halftime leading 47-17. Pasvalio played Zalgiris almost even in a 26-23 third quarter, but still trailed 73-40 after 30 minutes. Likewise, the final quarter was well contested, although Zalgiris won that too by 26-22 and hit a high difference of 88-48 that led directly to the trophy ceremony. Team captain Paulius Jankunas made 7 of 7 two-point shots on the way to a team-high 14 points. Rakovic added 11 points while five others - Popovic, Delininkaitis, Robertas Javtokas, Mantas Kalnietis and Vytenis Lipkevicius - added 10 each. Zalgiris had previously won the Lithuanian Cup in 2007, 2008 and 2011.
