Lithuanian League Playoffs, Semifinals Game 1: April 24
Mantas Kalnietis - Zalgiris KaunasThe opening games of the Lithuanian League semifinals series provided great drama and one stunning upset as Zalgiris handled Rudupis on the road, but Siauliai stunned Lietuvos Rytas. Robertas Javtokas scored 18 and Mantas Kalnietis tallied 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists as Zalgiris won 74-81. Zalgiris led from start to finish after opening up with a 0-7 run, but Rudupis never quit and closed within 70-72 on an Arnas Labuckas three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter. However Tomas Delininkaitis hit back from downtown and Javtokas and Marko Popovic added free throws in a 0-9 response that put the defending champs in control again. Popovic and Pailius Jankunas added 16 points each for Zalgiris. Gintaras Kadziulis paced Rudupis with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Siauliai took control of a close game as Rashaun Broadus scored 7 points and added a steal and an assist in a 12-0 fourth-quarter run that made it 70-63 and Rytas never recovered. Cam Long led the winners with 20 points and 6 assists and Broadus added 14 points. Arturas Jomantas scored 17 for Rytas in defeat. Rytas will host Game 2 and – if necessary Game 3 – in the capital, which gives it a strong chance to overcome the loss and return to the finals.
