Lithuanian League Finals, Game 1: May 7, 2012

Zalgiris took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Lithuanian League finals by topping archrivals Lietuvos Rytas 71-56 in Kaunas on Sunday. Marko Popovic led the winners with 13 points. Paulius Jankunas added 11 while Robertas Javtokas and Milovan Rakovic each had 10 for Zalgiris. Ronnie Seibutis led L. Rytas with 12 points. Jonas Valanciunas added 11 for the guests. Javtokas had 6 points in a 10-0 opening run that gave Zalgiris the lead for good. Arturas Jomantas and Valanciunas tried to change things for L. Rytas but back-to-back triples by Popovic allowed Zalgiris to keep a 21-11 edge after 10 minutes. L. Rytas trailed all the way but managed to get within 40-33 right after the break. It didn't last long, however, as a 16-3 that Popovic capped with another three-pointer broke the game open, 56-36. Nothing changed from that moment, as Zalgiris kept full control of the game until the final buzzer.
