Polish Cup Final: February 19, 2012
Trefl Sopot in the 2012 Polish Cup champion (PLK)Trefl Sopot held off Zastal Zielona Gora 77-73 Sunday to win the Polish Cup. Lukasz Koszarek was awarded MVP honors after scoring 25 points for the winners. Koszarek took charge early with 7 straight points to lift Sopot to a 15-5 start, which became a 22-13 lead after 10 minutes. The lead grew as Sopot scored the first 7 points of the second quarter, but Walter Hodge and Kirk Archibeque carried Gora back within 4 before Koszarek heated up and Filip Dylewicz settled the halftime score at 44-34. After an even third quarter, Gora made a late charge in the fourth quarter and Jakub Dloniak’s triple with 41 seconds left gave Gora hope at 77-73, but neither team scored again and Sopot celebrated the historic win. Dylewicz added 13 points and 8 rebounds and Lukasz Wisniewski also scored 13 for the winners. Hodge led Gora with 21 points and 9 assists and Kamil Chanas added 17 points in the loss.
