CSKA Moscow started the Russian League season in style with a 62-79 win at Nizhniy Novgorod. Darjus Lavrinovic scored 20 points and Andrey Vorontsevich and Alexey Shved netted 14 each to lead the defending champs. Vorontsevich added 8 rebounds, while Shved posted 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The game was close until midway through the third quarter when CSKA used a 0-14 run to put the game away. Ernest Bremer paced Nizhniy Novgorod with 14 points. Spartak-Primorye upset UNICS Kazan 80-73 led by 18 points and 11 assists from Torey Thomas. Jeleel Akindele added 13 points for the winners. Terrell Lyday scored 15 and Henry Domercant 13 for Kazan in defeat. BC Khimki Moscow Region won its season opener by defeating Krasnye Krylya 85-79. Chris Quinn paced Khimki with 21 points and Kresimir Loncar had 19. Jarvis Hayes led the Red Wings with 21.
