Russian League playoffs, Finals Game 1: May 16, 2012
CSKA Moscow took the first step to successfully defend its Russian League title by downing BC Khimki Moscow Region 81-62 at home on Wednesday. CSKA has a 1-0 lead in the series and hosts Game 2 tomorrow. Jamont Gordon led the winners with 16 points and 6 assists. Darjus Lavrinovic added 14 points, Alexey Shved had 13, Andrei Kirilenko got 12 while Nenad Krstic contributed 11 for CSKA. Vitaliy Fridzon led Khimki with 22 points. Zoran Planinic added 17 for the guests, that were outrebounded by 37-22. A buzzer-beating triple by Fridzon allowed Khimki to get a 17-20 edge after 10 minutes. A 10-0 run allowed CSKA to regain the lead, 35-32, at halftime. Khimki stayed within 50-48 late in the third quarter but Gordon ahd Shved fueled a 9-0 run that broke the game open, 59-48. CSKA boosted its margin to 68-55 and never looked back. In the third place playoffs, Triumph Lyubertsy topped Lokomotiv Kuban 91-86 in Game 1 behind 24 points from Tywain McKee and 21 from Sergey Karasev. Ali Traore led Loko with 22 points. Loko tied the series with a 81-93 road win in Game 2. K.C. Rivers paced the winners with 20 points. Sergey Bykov added 19 while Nikita Shabalkin and Lionel Chalmers each had 13. Loko will host Games 3 and 4 this week.
