Spanish League, Regular Season, Game 4: October 22-23, 2011
Unicaja’s blistering start to the Spanish League continued with a 79-57 thrashing of CAI Zaragoza on Sunday. With the win Unicaja remains the Spanish League’s lone unbeaten team through four games and leads four teams – among them FC Barcelona Regal and Real Madrid – tied for second place at 3-1. Luka Zoric scored 16 and Joel Freeland had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Unicaja, whose defense never allowed the visitors more than 16 points in a quarter. Barcelona stood tall in an all-Turkish Airlines Euroleague showdown against Bizkaia Bilbao Basket, 91-72. Juan Carlos Navarro was on fire with 27 points and Erazem Lorbek added 19 for the winners. Madrid took care of Blusens Monbus 81-67 as Nikola Mirotic led six Whites scorers in double figures with 17 points and Felipe Reyes added a double-double. Valencia Basket upended Caja Laboral 72-82 behind 21 points from Rafa Martinez. Assignia Manresa extended Gran Canaria 2014’s rough start to the season with a 69-60 victory. Sergiy Gladyr paced Manresa with 17 points. In the weekend’s other contests, UCAM Murcia picked up its first win and Asefa Estudiantes, Baloncesto Fuenlabrada and Lucentum Alicante also won.

Rafael Hettsheimeir led Zaragoza with 15 points and 12 boards. FC Barcelona Regal stood tall in an all-Turkish Airlines Euroleague showdown against Bizkaia Bilbao Basket, 91-72. Juan Carlos Navarro was on fire with 27 points and Erazem Lorbek added 19 for the winners. Barcelona led by 10 after one quarter and 52-36 at halftime en route to a convincing win. Navarro and Lorbek were the leaders of a 10-for-22 three-point shooting effort (45.5%). Kosta Perovic added 12 points and Pete Mickeal 10 for the victors. D’Or Fischer had 13 and Marko Banic 10 for Bilbao.
Real Madrid took care of Blusens Monbus 81-67 as Nikola Mirotic led six Whites scorers in double figures with 17 points and Felipe Reyes added a double-double. Madrid led 44-34 at halftime and dominated the glass 40-27 to hold the win. Rudy Fernandez scored 14, Reyes had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Sergio Llull and Mirza Begic netted 11 each for the winners. Valencia Basket upended Caja Laboral 72-82 behind 21 points from Rafa Martinez. Laboral led early and was up 37-35 at the half, but Valencia controlled the action in the second half. Stefan Markovic finished with 13 points and 4 assists and Serhiy Lishchuck scored 12 for Valencia. Mirza Teletovic was worth 23 points and 8 rebounds in defeat. Assignia Manresa extended Gran Canaria 2014’s rough start to the season with a 69-60 victory. Sergiy Gladyr paced Manresa with 17 points. Granca led by 5 at the break, but saw that slip away when it was held to just 8 third-quarter points. Juan Palacios scored 12 to lead Gran Canaria.
