Spanish League, Regular Season, Game 13: December 28-29, 2011
FC Barcelona Regal regained sole possession of first place in the Spanish League after beating visiting Assignia Manresa 74-61, while in neighboring Badalona, FIATC Mutua Joventut edged Real Madrid 78-75. The end result left Barca in first place with an 11-3 record, while Madrid is tied with Unicaja, Caja Laboral and Lucentum Alicante with 10-3 records. Chuck Eidson scored 14 points, Erazem Lorbek added 12 and Boni Ndong hauled in 11 rebounds for Barcelona, which broke open a close game in the third quarter. Joventut held off Madrid in a game that was close throughout. Albert Oliver made a pair of free throws with 17.4 seconds left to give Joventut a 78-75 lead and on the final possession and Euroleague December MVP Nikola Mirotic missed badly on a three from the corner to tie the game at the buzzer. A week after losing at Gescrap BB and missing out on the Euroleague Top 16, Caja Laboral won 79-80 on the same floor on a Fernando San Emeterio three at the buzzer. Unicaja came from behind to beat Cajasol 68-72 on the road in the Andalusian derby as Kristaps Valters scored 18 and Joel Freeland posted a double-double. Alicante’s 10th win came at Fuenlabrada’s expense, 60-64, as Ty Ellis scored 16.

Madrid, which struggled from outside – 2 of 12 three-point shooting – and missed 13 free throws, got 15 points from Sergio Llull and 12 points and 8 rebounds from Mirotic.

Mirza Teletovic paced the winenrs with 24 points and 7 rebounds and Pablo Prigioni added 18 points. Aaron Jackson and Kostas Vasiliadis scored 20 points each for Bilbao. Unicaja came from behind to beat Cajasol 68-72 on the road in the Andalusian derby as Kristaps Valters scored 18 and Joel Freeland posted a double-double. After a back-and-forth first half ended at 37-35, Cajasol raced ahead by as many as 11 early in the third quarter. But a Valters triple narroed it to 54-48 at the end of the third quarter, and Mark Payne tied the game at 56-56 before Berni Rodriguez put the visitors ahead. A valetrs triple down the stretch sealed the win. Freeland finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jorge Garbajose added 11 points for Unicaja. Paul Davis led Cajasol with 18.
