Spanish League, Regular Season, Game 21: February 25-26, 2012
The top three teams in the Spanish League all won as leader FC Barcelona Regal and closest rival Real Madrid both registered comfortable victories, while Caja Laboral edged past Blancos de Rueda Valladolid. Barcelona beat Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada 86-59, outscoring the opponent 50-25 in the first and third quarters. Erazem Lorbek led the way with 19 points, doing damage inside and out, as he nailed 4 of 5 from downtown, while Juan Carlos Navarro and Boniface Ndong netted 13 apiece and Kosta Perovic added 10. C.J. Wallace controlled the boards with 11 rebounds. Real Madrid upended Gran Canaria 2014 90-72 after opening an 18-9 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Sergio Llull continued his recent productivity with 20 points to pace the winners, while Jaycee Carroll knocked down 17 and Felipe Reyes had 14. Madrid played efficiently, making 29 of 38 attempts from two-point range. With the win Madrid climbed to 17-4, a win behind Barcelona’s 18-3 record. Caja Laboral held onto third place at 15-6 after it held off Valladolid 67-65 as the hosts’ Brad Oleson buried a two-pointer with 9 seconds left to grab the win. Oleson was the leading scorer for Caja Laboral with 15 points, while Fernando San Emeterio bagged 12 and Pau Ribas added 11. The hosts won without Mirza Teletovic who left after 1:16 in the first quarter with stomach cramps and did not return. Both Unicaja and Lucentum Alicante lost and remained tied for fourth with 13-8 records. Valencia took care of Unicaja on the road 58-68, led by an impressive Nando De Colo, who racked up a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Rafa Martinez and Nik Caner-Medley each added 11 points for the winners. Unicaja’s Joel Freeland had 17 points and Jorge Garabosa 13 in a losing effort. Blusens Monbus squeaked by Alicante 63-64 on a free throw by Levon Kendall with less than 1 second on the clock, giving the visitors their third consecutive win, all against teams in the upper half of the table. Bernard Hopkins and and Ebi Ere paced with winners with 10 points apiece. UCAM Murcia ended Gescrap’s five-game winning streak with a 73-69 win, led by James Augustine’s 16 points and Ime Udoka’s 14. Aaron Jackson led the losers with 17 points and Alex Mumbru chipped in 14. Lagun Aro GBC eked out a 76-75 win over Zaragoza behind Jimmy Baron’s 23 points.
