Spanish League, Regular Season, Game 25: March 17-18, 2012
FC Barcelona Regal snapped a two-game losing streak by downing Blusens Monbus 71-58, but Real Madrid brushed aside CAI Zaragoza 85-71 to take advantage of its rival’s losses and move once more into a tie for first with 20-5 records. Barcelona wanted to send a message early, taking a 20-2 lead after eight minutes, but Blusens answered with an 0-11 run of its own. The hosts resumed control to take a 34-22 lead at the half, which they maintained the rest of the way. Boniface Ndong led the way, scoring 21 points, while Juan Carlos Navarro posted 16 and Marcelo Huertas added 10. Real Madrid took care of Zaragoza 85-71 behind a stellar performance by Jaycee Carroll, who scored 36 points, including 5 of 7 from downtown. The Whites went out front with a 25-13 second quarter and never relinquished the lead. Kyle Singler had 13 and Nikola Mirotic 10 for the winners. Caja Laboral also recovered from a loss last week by pounding Unicaja 90-68 in a game the winners led 20-6 after the first quarter. Mirza Teletovic paced the winners with 24 points, while Brad Oleson netted 20, draining 5 of 6 three-pointers. Pablo Prigioni led Caja Laboral in rebounds and assists, with 8 and 4, respectively. Kristaps Valters scored 13 in a losing effort. Caja Laboral remained in third place with an 18-7 record, well ahead of three teams tied with 14-11 records – Valencia Basket, Lucentum Alilcante and Lagun Aro. Valencia continued its winning ways, overpowering Assignia Manresa 68-89 as Nando De Colo poured in 22 points and Victor Claver and Rafa Martinez added 17 apiece. Lucentum used a 20-12 third quarter to take out Lagun Aro 79-68, led by Pedro Llompart’s 15 points. Gescrap led Asefa Estudiantes 33-35 at halftime and held on to win 69-71, as Marko Banic netted 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, while Konstantinos Vasileiadis and Roger Grimau added 10 apiece. Gescrap climbed to 13-12. In other games, Banca Civica beat Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada 70-75, and UCAM Murcia walloped Blancos de Rueda Valladolid 85-56.
