Juan Carlos Navarro - FC Barcelona Regal_37360In a clash of top teams from the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and the Eurocup, FC Barcelona Regal maintained its lead in the Spanish League with a hard-fought victory over Valencia Basket 76-72. Meanwhile closest-rival Real Madrid kept pace by routing Unicaja 64-51. Barcelona lifted its record to 22-5 in a game that finished close after the hosts built up a 53-35 lead at the 24-minute mark. But after Valencia outscored Barcelona 14-22 in the third quarter and tied the game at 60-60 early in the fourth, Juan Carlos Navarro took the reins in hand and scored 5 straight to give the hosts a 75-68 lead that proved decisive. Navarro led the winners with 17 points, while Victor Sada tallied 12 and Marcelo Huertas added 10. Nando De Colo posted 18 points and Vitor Faverani 16 in a losing effort. Led by Mirza Begic’s 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, Real Madrid outclassed Unicaja 64-51, leading throughout the game and spotlighting its defense and rebounding to get the job done. The victory was Madrid’s fourth in four games against Unicaja this season -- two in the Spanish League and two in the Euroleague Top 16. Kyle Singler added 13 points and Sergio Rodriguez 11 for the winners. Joel Freeland paced the losers with 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Berni Rodriguez tallied 9 points and Troy DeVries 8. With the loss Unicaja slipped to 14-12. Fifth-place Lucentum Alicante upended third-place Caja Laboral 72-71 as Pedro Llompart scored 5 straight points in the waning seconds of the game to the delight of fans in Alicante, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer that secured the victory. The last-second heroics erased the visitors’ 67-71 lead in a game that was neck-and-neck throughout. Kaloyan Ivanov netted 22 points, while Lamont Barnes and Llompart added 10 each to lead the winners. Nemanja Bjelica bagged 16 points, Mirza Teletovic 13 and Brad Oleson 11 in a losing effort.
