Jaycee Carroll - Real Madrid_35343FC Barcelona Regal ousted Lucentum Alicante 57-84 to book a spot in the semifinals of the Spanish League, where it awaits the winner of the series between Valencia Basket and Lagun Aro GBC, which is now tied at 1-1 after Lagun Aro outduelled Valencia 86-82 in overtime to force a decisive Game 3 on May 22. On the other side of the bracket, Real Madrid dumped Banca Civica 55-82 and will face Caja Laboral, which edged fellow Basque rival Gescrap Bizkaia in overtime 88-90. Barcelona jumped out to a 13-24 lead in the first quarter but the game was not as lopsided as the final score suggests. Alicante cut the deficit to 31-35 in the second quarter, then used a 5-0 burst at the start of the third to pull to 39-42, but Barcelona stayed out front at the end of 30 minutes 49-57. The lead stayed in single digits until minute 35, when Alicante coach Txus Vidorreta got hit with two technicals. From then on the momentum shifted: Barcelona won the quarter 8-27, leading to the 57-84 final score. Boniface Ndong paced the winners with 14 points, while Chuck Eidson had 13, C.J. Wallace 10 and Fran Vazquez 10. Pedro Llompart netted 16 for the losers. Real Madrid led Banca Civica from the opening quarter 12-22, then the teams played evenly until the fourth quarter, when the visitors padded the lead further. Jaycee Carroll led all scorers with 20 points, including 4 of 4 from downtown, while Sergio Llull tallied 13 and three players finished with 8 – Ante Tomic, Felipe Reyes and Novica Velickovic. Txemi Urtasan paced the losers with 16 points. Pablo Prigioni lifted Caja Laboral to a grueling 88-90 overtime victory over Gescrap, hitting a buzzer-beater to force overtime then the game-winning free throws with 5 seconds on the clock. Gescrap looked well-positioned to force a game 3, led by Aaron Jackson’s 14 points in the final quarter, but with the score at 81-79 and 6 seconds on the clock Marko Banic missed two free throws, opening the door for Prigioni’s heroics. Fernando San Emeterio led the scoring for the winners with 17 points, hitting 10 of 10 from the foul line, while Prigioni and Nemanja Bjelica posted 13 apiece, with the former adding 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Jackson contributed 20 points, Banic 13 and D’or Fischer 11 in a losing effort. Valencia was in the driver’s seat after three quarters 52-62, but suddenly turned cold in a 19-9 fourth quarter as Lagun Aro forced overtime, which the hosts dominated 15-11. David Doblas scored a game-high 21 points and 9 rebounds, while Jimmy Baron had 14 and Andy Panko 13 to pace the winners. Stefan Markovic tallied 17, Nando De Colo 13 and Nik Caner-Medley and Dean Taquan added 11 apiece for the losers.
