GasTerra Flames Groningen took a thrilling 77-78 away win over BS Weert on Saturday night after a closely contested game to remain atop the Dutch League table with 5-1 record. The Flames seemed to be in control and led 54-64 early in the last quarter, but needed a big effort to hold back Weert in the end. Alex Wesby led the way with 18 points, Bryan Defares added 17 and David Bell another 10. The winners tallied more assists (22-16), and hit 9 from beyond the arc, 3 more than Weert. Demario Anderson had 21 with 11 boards for the hosts. Leiden and Nijmegen remain in second place with 3-2 records. Leiden downed Nijmegen on Wednesday night 68-74 behind 24 points scored by Gabe Kennedy, while the hosts had 19 from Markel Humphrey. Nijmegen beat Zwolle at home 73-63 led by 19 points from Maurice Acker and 15 by Ross Bekkering. Rotterdam won its first game of the season, squeezing past Leeuwarden 85-82 on Saturday night. Daniel jones bagged 23 points and Raif de Pagter added 22 for the winners. Mark Sanchez contributed with 20 for Aris Leeuwarden.
