Turkish League finals, Game 4: June 5, 2012
Besiktas Milangaz moved within a single victory of its first Turkish championship since 1975 when it crushed Anadolu Efes 81-55 on Tuesday to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven finals. Besiktas will get its first chance to win the series on Friday on the road, where it won the first two games. David Hawkins starred with 23 points and 7 assists to pace the winners, who pulled away in the first quarter and never looked back. Carlos Arroyo added 13 points, Pops Mensah-Bonsu tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds and Erwin Dudley also netted 12. Kerem Gonlum paced Efes with 12 points and Sasha Vujacic scored 10 in defeat. Besiktas made its move early as Hawkins completed a three-point play and then drilled a triple in a 9-1 run that made it 17-8. Vujacic cut the gap to 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and an Oliver Lafayette three further narrowed the gap to 5 early in the second. However Besiktas pieced together 11 unanswered points – 5 of them by Hawkins – to make it 30-14. Gonlum tried to lead the visitors back, but another burst by the hosts saw Arroyo lift the lead to 17 before Besiktas settled for a 42-26 halftime lead. The hosts continued to add to their lead in the third quarter with Dudley taking the lead into the 20-point range with a bucket to make it 53-32 midway through the third quarter. The lead swelled to 60-36 through three quarters and peaked at 76-42 in the fourth as Besiktas punctuated a big win.
