French League, Regular Season, Game 1: October 5-6, 2012

The defending champion and Turkish Airlines Euroleague representative Elan Chalon stumbled out of the starting gate in the French League by losing at home 71-72 to Asvel Villeurbanne on Saturday. In a thrilling finish, Jean Baptiste Adolphe put back an offensive rebound to tie the score at 69-69, but a three-pointer by Amara Sy with 41 seconds left in the game gave the victory to the visitors. Michael Thompson led the winners with 13 points. Blake Schilb had 16 for Chalon and Nicolas Lang 13. Chalon’s was one of five losses by home teams in the seven opening games played over the weekend. Eurocup team Le Mans plays its opener on Monday night. The two other Eurocup teams from France, Cholet Basket and Orleans Loiret Basket, suffered losses to start the domestic season. Cholet suffered a 63-65 home defeat against Dijon after leading by a slim margin for most of the match. Andre Harris bagged 14 for the winners, while Travon Bryant nailed 17 points and Rudy Jomby 12 for Cholet. Paris Levallois got a huge 93-75 win over Orleans as Sean May had 22 points and 7 rebounds. Caleb Green chipped in 17 for the losers. Gravelines-Dunkerque was the second team taking a home victory, downing 82-73 Strasbourg as Juby Johnson drilled 15 points. Three more away wins completed the opening weekend, Le Havre thrashed rookie team Boulazac 56-76 while Limoges took a 68-70 success in Nanterre and Poitiers beat Roanne 69-73.
