Vassilis Spanoulis - Olympiacos Piraeus - EB12Defending champion Olympiacos Piraeus took the great Athens derby 60-64 over archrival Panathinaikos at OAKA on Monday night. Former Greens Vassilis Spanoulis and Stratos Perperoglou led the way for the Reds with 19 and 12 points, respectively. Spanoulis also dished 5 assists. Olympiacos led by as many as 14 in the second quarter before settling on a 28-40 halftime lead. Panathinaikos rallied to within 6 three times in the third quarter and OAKA really got going after Dimitris Diamantidis closed the gap to 57-61 with two and a half minutes remaining, but Kostas Papanikolaou hit back with a three-pointer and neither team scored in the closing minute as a Spanoulis steal on the final Panathinaikos possession sealed the outcome. Diamantidis led the hosts with 19 points. Kolossos and Panionios join Olympiacos atop the standings with 2-0 records. Kolossos shined on defense in a 49-65 win at Ilissiakos as Dimitrios Tsaldaris netted 16 points. Panionios bested Peristeri 79-65 as Vladimir Jankovic tallied 15 points and 8 rebounds.
