VTB United League finals, Game 4: June 7, 2013
CSKA Moscow held on to beat Lokomotiv Kuban 54-59 on Friday to win the VTB United League title for the second straight season and third time in club history. Sonny Weems starred with 24 points to lead CSKA, which took the best-of-five series 3-1. Aaron Jackson and Andrey Vorontsevich added 9 points apiece for the winners. Vorontsevich also collected 9 rebounds. Derrick Brown paced Lokomotiv with 16 points and Nick Calathes tallied 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Lokomotiv led by double figures in the second quarter and held on for a 33-27 lead at the half. CSKA fought back in the third; Vladimir Micov tied the game at 44-44 and Vorontsevich nailed a triple to put his team up 47-50 in the last minute of the quarter. Richard Hendrix brought the hosts within 1 at the start of the fourth quarter, but Micov and Weems kept CSKA ahead. Mantas Kalnietis nailed a three and later split free throws to bring his team within 54-56 with 1:25 to play, however Kalnietis missed with a chance to tie with 40 seconds left and Jackson nailed 2 free throws to make it a two-possession game with 21 seconds left as CSKA held on for the win.
