Euroleague unites with Special Olympics
Euroleague Basketball and Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia are delighted to announce a new partnership agreement that will promote greater opportunities in basketball for people with intellectual disabilities during the 2009-10 Euroleague season. The agreement was announced today during the pre-game press conference of the Euroleague Basketball Opening Game between Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and Union Olimpija Ljubljana in Israel. As the world's largest year-round sports training programme for people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics is aiming to increase the number of basketball players in Europe and Central Asia from 53,000 to 56,000 in 2010 as well as to recruit 300 new volunteer coaches.

OCTOBER 7, 2009 - Euroleague Basketball is proud to announce that Euroleague Basketball games will be broadcast in Italy thanks to a new agreement with Sportitalia. All Italian fans will be able to watch all Euroleague Basketball with Italian teams during the next three seasons through SI and SI 2, in both satellite and DTT platforms. Sportitalia is one of the main television platforms in Italy, with DTT and satellite platforms reaching more than 16 million potential viewers.

Taulell, through its headline product TAU Ceramica, was Baskonia’s chief sponsor for 22 seasons, during which the club reached impressive heights.
Euroleague CEO to participate in EU Conference

SEPTEMBER 16, 2009 - Euroleague CEO Jordi Bertomeu will take part in the "EU Conference on Licensing Systems for Club Competitions", hosted by the European Sport Commission, to be held on September 17 and 18 in Brussels. During the two-day conference, more than 20 international sports executives will debate the different licensing systems for club competitions.

JULY 13, 2009 - Andrey Vatutin has been chosen as CSKA Moscow's new president, the club announced Friday. Vatutin replaces Sergey Kushchenko as club president. Vatutin was elected by CSKA's board and also retains his position as the club's CEO - which he had previously been promoted to in 2007.

JUNE 09, 2009 - Under the chairmanship of Mr. Borislav Stankovic, Secretary General Emeritus of FIBA World, and of Mr. Jordi Bertomeu, CEO of Euroleague, the Serbian clubs, Adriatic League directors and Serbian Basketball Federation president announced their full consensus for the establishment of criteria for the awarding of B Licenses under the Euroleague Strategic Plan approved in Rome.

JUNE 18, 2009 - One of Europe's most legendary coaches and a key figure in Bulgarian basketball history, Bozhidar Takev, has passed away at the age of 89. Takev was a former player, referee, and coach that took part in the first two European Cup title games.
Euroleague announces donation to Nelson Mandela Foundation

JUNE 16, 2009 - The Euroleague is proud to announce that a new contribution has been made in the name of the competition's fans to the "46664" campaign of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The donation comes from the coins collected at entrances during the 2009 Berlin Final Four and profits from the sale of the merchandising offered by Nike, the Euroleague sponsor.

JUNE 3, 2009 - Exactly 40 years after his tragic death, an original icon of European basketball was remembered in Belgrade. Known as "the first legend" in Serbia, Radivoj Korac was one of basketball's greatest scorers ever. In 2008, he was chosen among the top 50 contributors to the first half-century of European club basketball.
