LIETUVOS RYTAS: Big man Borovnjak on board
Dejan Borovnjak (Photo: Adriatic League)Eurocup champion Lietuvos Rytas started to get ready for its Euroleague return in the 2009-10 season with the signing of a new power forward, Dejan Borovnjak, the club announced Wednesday. Borovnjak (208, 23) arrives from Vojvodina in Serbia, where he averaged 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in 25 Adriatic League games this season. He started his short, promising career with Partizan, helping the team to win back-to-back Serbia and Montenegro League titles in 2005 and 2006 before lifting consecutive Serbian League and Adriatic League titles in 2007 and 2008. Borovnjak also won the Serbian Radivoj Korac Cup with Partizan in 2008. Borovnjak boasts four years of Euroleague experience, having debuted at 18 years old in January of 2005 with what turned out to be his top performance in 43 games over the next four years in thee competition. In a victory over Estudiantes of Spain that night, Borovnjak had 8 points and 3 steals in 10 minutes off the bench. He averaged 17 minutes in six Euroleague appearances that season, but no more than 5 minutes in any season after that before leaving for Vojvodina last year.
