EFES PILSEN: Extends Gonlum, Thornton
Bootsy Thornton - Efes PilsenTurkish League regular season champion Efes Pilsen has reached an agreement with shooting guard Bootsy Thornton and power forward Kerem Gonlum to extend their respective contracts, the club announced Friday. Gonlum (208, 31) inked a two-year deal with the Turkish powerhouse. He averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in 10 Euroleague games last season. Gonlum is in his fourth season with Efes Pilsen, to which he has helped to win three Turkish Cup titles in 2006, 2007 and 2009. Gonlum also has played for TED Kolejliler and Ulker in his native Turkish, where he is a regular member of his national team. Meanwhile, Thornton (194, 31) inked a one-year extension with Efes. Thornton, a 2007-08 All-Euroleague second team selection, averaged 12.8 points, 4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 10 Euroleague games last season. He has also played for Montepaschi Siena and Cantu in Italy, as well as for FC Barcelona and Akasvayu Girona in Spain. He helped Montepaschi to win Italian League titles in 2004 and 2008, as well as reaching the Final Four in those two seasons. Thornton has also won the FIBA EuroCup title with Girona in 2007 and lifted the Turkisk Cup trophy with Efes this season.
